Alex Reeves is currently contracting as a Mechanical Stress Engineer for a major supplier to Defence Manufacturers. Software currently used includes MathCAD (for hand calculations), Teamcenter (for file access), NX (for CAD analysis) & Ansys (for Finite Element Analysis). He is currently working on a submarine project, having previously worked on stress analysis of a crane used for refueling nuclear submarines.
Previous experience has been full time employment for over a decade in the Orthopaedic (Medical) Implant Industry with experience in Research, Testing, Design, Development, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs. Other experience has been in teaching at Secondary, Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.
Although most of the research work has been confidential, some it has been published peer review papers. These include:
Comparison of the wear of aged and non-aged ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene sterilized by gamma irradiation and by gas plasma, J. Materials Science, Materials in Medicine, 1997
A two-dimensional model of cyclic strain accumulation in ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene knee replacements, J. Engineering in Medicine, 1998
Comparison of gas plasma and gamma irradiation in air sterilization on the delamination wear of the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene used in knee replacements, J. Engineering in Medicine, 2000
A biomechanical comparison of plate configuration in distal humerus fractures, J. Orthopaedic Truama, 2008
The effect of isotonic saline on the strength of bone cement during the polymerisation period, Hip International, 2011, In Press
Other work has also been presented. This includes:
A comparison of pressures created by various commonly used intramedullary reamers, Internet Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2007
